This job offers you a monthly salary between € 4.500 and € 6.400 depending on your experience. This is based on a 36-hour work week, excluding a 13th month and holiday allowance.

Your impact as Senior VMware Engineer at NN

In this position you are mainly working to keep the infrastructure up and running and to continuously improve it. You ensure continuity, but especially the security and compliance of the VMware hosting platform. As a Senior VMware Engineer you will also work on the automation and renewal of our VMware infrastructure, where self-service and automation are important pillars. With your knowledge and experience, you actively give direction to the roadmap and determine together with the team, the PO and the stakeholders how the environment can be continuously improved. The easier we can make it for ourselves and for our customers, the better!

Your responsibilities

In this position you are mainly working to keep the infrastructure up and running and to continuously improve it. As a Senior VMware Engineer you will be asked to:

• Translate business requirements in high performant and cost-efficient designs
• Assist architects in designing reliable products
• Join in P1s and help the teams to remediate the issue as soon as possible. This implies you have good knowledge of the VMware components and tooling used to manage the infrastructure. For this role you need NSX knowledge and basic network knowledge
• Automate, automate, automate. Create your pipelines, make sure best practices are followed and quality code is used. Be able to quickly create a required script from scratch

Who you are

You are an inquisitive and enthusiastic engineer who is not afraid to be involved in complex technical issues. You live for infrastructure and security and love to be at the helm. This way you come to the best decisions with ownership, control and a good dose of responsibility. You take initiative if you think things can be improved. For the more junior engineers in your team, you are happy to take on the role of coach. Your interest in automation, scripting and coding completes it.

In addition, you of course have:

• Several years of design experience with VMware technologies, including vROps, ESXi, vSAN, vRA/vRO and NSX and preferably also VCF and VxRail
• >5 years of Senior Engineering experience with storage infrastructure and VMware
• Demonstrable design experience and/or a lead engineer role in an Enterprise grade VMware environment
• At least 3 years of infra-automation experience. Powershell is preferred. Ansible is a plus
• Think out of the box, have a “can do” attitude. Be curious to learn new technologies, and develop continuously. Dare to challenge

The team

We are the VMware Infra team. We are responsible for providing a holistic view of all hosted systems as well as maintaining an efficient and secure infrastructure that offers uninterrupted service for our customers. We ensure continuity, but especially the security and compliance of the VMware hosting platform.

In our DevOps team you work closely with a Product Owner and fellow VMware Engineers. The team is diverse. You have about 7 male and female colleagues of different ages and each with their own expertise and degree of experience. Knowledge plays a major role and we like to learn from each other. We work hard (sometimes outside office hours), but we also make sure that we can sometimes get away from it all together. We regularly organize both informal and professional outings.

We work with the latest versions of VMware, in which several thousand Linux and Windows servers for applications of all parts of NN-Group run.

We use technologies like: VCF, ESXi, vSAN, VxRail, Veeam, vRli, vROps and PPDM.

In short: our team ensures the continuity, security, improvement and automation of the largest hosting platform within NN.
