Base salary is commensurate with experience, ranging from $90,000-$130,000 + benefits. Additional incentives include eligibility for performance based bonuses and Nucleate-sponsored business travel.

About The Role
The Activator Program Director will have a pivotal role in ensuring the success, growth, and improvement of the program year over year. You will have the opportunity to directly engage our incredible and diverse leadership team, as well as external partners, our board of directors, and world-class strategic advisors. You will critically contribute to the financial stability of the program by working closely with our Sponsorships and Partnerships team to develop our annual sponsorship strategy and acquire new sponsors to support the cost of our programming. You will have the opportunity to manage a team of Leadership volunteers to assist on the execution of our programming, and you will provide support to our network of student leaders throughout the world as they execute on our annual program.

You are able to communicate in an engaging and professional manner across a variety of mediums (virtual meeting formats, email, Slack, etc…). You have strong writing skills and are capable of proofreading and drafting communications including emails, white-papers & social media campaigns. You enjoy the freedom to think creatively and develop & execute on fun, engaging, and innovative events and ideas. You are data-driven, proactive, and tech-savvy.

You are a self-starter and have a strong ability to parse, strategize, and execute on an objective given uncertainty. You aren’t afraid to speak up and ask for help when you need to, and you thrive in a fast-paced work environment where you are presented the opportunity to exchange & refine ideas in a group setting.

You are a leader and have the ability to lead large teams of people. You have strong interpersonal skills and can communicate to many different people coming from different backgrounds and of a variety of ages. You have management experience and delegation skills.

What You'll Do
Work closely with Nucleate’s Co-Presidents, Executive Team and Board of Directors.
Play a key role in organizing, managing, and collaborating with our diverse, international volunteer leadership team.
Integrate key initiatives into the planning, infrastructure, and execution of the Activator program.
Ensure the execution and success of our annual Activator programming across all core regions, including management of the following activities:

  • Develop & disseminate key communications surrounding our programming throughout the academic year
  • Assist in the strategy and execution of sourcing high-potential applicants for our yearly programming
  • Coordinate on the application review, team formation, mentor matching, and expert-pairing processes of our programming
  • Oversee internal engagement with Activator alumni, and current cohort teams
  • Actively engage with our world-class strategic advisors to develop and improve upon our existing curriculum
  • Manage external engagement with biotech community.

Education/Experience
A BA equivalent or higher, MS or PhD preferred, ideally with a background in Biology, Bioengineering, or similar STEM field (although not required).

3-5+ years of demonstrated excellence and leadership in a management position, preferably in the biotech space although not required.

Desirable Skills
Highly effective organizational and communication skills are essential.

Familiarity with a fast-paced work environment, prior experience working at or founding a startup company.

Prior experience working in the biotech industry, academia, or familiarity with life sciences and the biotech innovation ecosystem.

Prior experience working in the non-profit sector, or working in an organization with a large volunteer base.

Demonstrated fundraising and/or deal-making track record.

Familiarity with frequently used tools and services within the Nucleate ecosystem such as: Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Drive, Gmail, Calendar), Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), email/mail merge, Slack, Airtable, SendGrid (or equivalent), Zoom.

Additional Information
We are ideally seeking an individual who is already located in or is willing to relocate to Boston MA in order to work closely in-person with key Nucleate Executive leadership. We are also open to hybrid or fully remote working conditions. Offer contingent on passing a standard CORI background check. This position is for a one year term with the expectation of renewal if core competencies of the position are fulfilled or exceeded. Nucleate is unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position.

About The Activator
Our flagship program, The Activator, identifies promising future bio-entrepreneurs working on impactful research and facilitates the formation of new life science companies developing human or planetary health solutions. Unlike traditional accelerators, Nucleate offers an equity-free, cost-free, hands-on entrepreneurship program that stimulates innovation both within and across regional ecosystems. The Activator program delivers impact through the following process:

  • Connection: Connecting trainees from diverse educational backgrounds to promote interdisciplinary learning that fills scientific, business, or clinical knowledge gaps
  • Support: Support teams with weekly mentorship and topic specific feedback from industry professionals curated specifically for the needs of each team
  • Structure: Carry teams through an iterative and intensive 4-month “life sciences venture” curriculum, culminating in a pitch day with industry operators and investors.

Our program has supported 107 prior venture teams, who collectively have raised $200M and created over 150 jobs. Our final cohort for 2023 represents 144 final teams sourced from over 30 institutions within the US and abroad. During our upcoming cycle, Nucleate will facilitate over $400K in non-dilutive funding awards and $4M in unpriced investment awards offered by our partners.
