Our Opportunity:

Chewy is hiring a Software Engineer to join the Discovery Experience team in Seattle, WA. The Discovery Experience team is responsible for the customer journey across Chewy.com, helping customers discover products through search results, catalog browsing, machine-learning recommendations, and more. As a member of their software engineering team, you will be responsible for the design, development and implementation of new features and feature enhancements. You will be involved in high-impact decisions and initiatives undertaken by the company, giving you a front row seat to shape Chewy’s growth.

To be successful in the role, you will need a proven track record of being a disruptor, innovator, and forward-looking engineer. You will need to be comfortable operating at depth, understanding every detail of the organization’s product goals, while being able to “zoom out” to connect the dots across the technology stack. You will collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders and have tremendous visibility in the product, technology & business organizations of Chewy.

What You’ll Do:

• You will have responsibility for the components that make up Chewy’s search experience – both development and operational needs. You will be a go-to engineer for your section of the platform.

• Help evolve and grow a world-class web application, serving millions of customers.

• Apply vision, strategy, and thought leadership to impact Chewy, at scale.

• Have a relentless focus on scalability, latency, performance robustness, and cost trade-offs - especially those present in highly virtualized, elastic, cloud-based environments.

• Apply scientific analysis and mathematical modeling techniques to predict, measure and evaluate the consequences of designs and the ongoing success of our platform.

• Alongside a dedicated site reliability team, develop and support the smooth 24x7 operation of our ecommerce site.

• Work with Engineering Leadership to drive best practices in software development, testing, and production deployment.

What You’ll Need:

• 1+ years of experience designing, building, deploying, operating, scaling, and evolving high volume consumer facing web applications in a 24/7 environment.

• 2+ years of industry experience in full-stack software development, using frameworks such as Next.JS, React, and Node.JS.

• A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience.

• Solid communication skills and ability to work well within a team.

• Experience using AWS or equivalent cloud providers.

• Experience working within an Agile/Scrum development process.

• Experience with product search and machine learning recommendation systems.

• Position will require travel between Seattle and Boston at least once per calendar year
