Job Description Scope:

Our candidate of choice will be responsible for supporting the Engineering Division with GIS database management and fieldwork, along with planning and implementing organization-wide programs.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Maintain and modify the asset management database utilizing Esri™ ArcGIS Enterprise and other related applications.

2. Perform fieldwork for data acquisition utilizing GPS equipment to ensure quality control of data capture.

3. Conduct field visits to monitor developers’ work with regard to SMCMUA facilities, policies, and procedures.

4. Utilize engineering applications such as AutoCAD to support the design and implementation of projects and understand the characteristics of materials and structures.

5. Perform relevant investigations and inspections pertaining to engineering projects.

6. Identify prospective opportunities to improve operational efficiency, quality, or performance for engineering programs and projects.

7. Interpret, understand, and evaluate technical data and associated documents to determine potential nuances and effects on plans or designs.

8. Examine survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, and other geographical data to ensure effective plans, arrangements, and results.

9. Prepare geographic representations of GIS information, by utilizing GIS hardware or software applications.

10. Review existing or incoming data for completion, precision, practicality, and quality of documentation.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of two years of experience working with geographic information systems and/or a minimum of three years of experience in civil engineering construction experience.
  • US ABET-accredited Bachelor of Science or higher degree in engineering, engineering technology, or other approved field and/or combination of education and experience.

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES

  • Knowledge of GIS applications.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD and other related engineering applications.
  • Experience in applied engineering and technical activities.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, maps, and specifications.
  • Excellent comprehension, written, and oral skills in English so that involved and complicated instructions and technical texts can be read, understood, produced, and communicated to staff.
  • Knowledge of materials, tools, and equipment used in various engineering construction, maintenance, and/or operational projects.
  • Maintain up-to-date skill sets to remain current with the best available technologies and practices.
  • Working harmoniously with co-workers, supervisors, managers, and the public.
  • Maintain an understanding and satisfactory compliance with the SMCMUA policies, procedures, practices, processes, and essential functions required for the position.
