Campus Housing seeks to develop students both in and out of the classroom through a rich residential curriculum, active student involvement in the university’s mission and student’s overall success. The Associate Director for Residence Life must be able to effectively handle complex situations; work calmly and accurately to deescalate situations and resolve escalated issues through constructive and creative approaches.

We are currently seeking an Associate Director for Facilities (ADF). The Associate Director is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of Campus Housing in Facilities. Develop and maintain a 24-hour building emergency plan to preserve student health and safety. This position includes leadership, management, and oversight of maintenance services as well as lead on various construction and facilities projects for Campus Housing. This position directly supervises two full-time staff as well as indirectly supervises full-time staff and various student staff. This position is responsible for project management; assessment and planning for facility needs; budget development and monitoring; staff selection and recruitment; training and evaluation; personnel management; coordination and evaluation of work performed by other agencies in student residence halls. This position is the departmental subject matter expert as it relates to maintenance, building systems, code requirements, and project management.

Description:

  • Inspects campus housing facilities, lounge areas and public areas condition and maintenance to ensure their operational condition. Oversees preventative maintenance programs, repairs and renovations. Process reports on damages, needed repairs and follow up to ensure repairs were completed.
  • Supervises all aspects of occupancy turns, cleaning, maintenance and projects for all Housing spaces.
Monitors facility conditions, develop needs, plans and schedules projects for the maintenance; coordinates projects with Facilities Management; assures compliance with applicable codes including UBC, Fire Safety and ADA.
  • Oversees various capital projects to include the planning, specifications, construction and warranty periods. Manages budgets for maintenance services; revises expenditure priorities as requires; develops budgetary enhancements required to meet functional goals and objectives.
  • Ensures a preventative maintenance plan for equipment, furniture replacement rotation and turn schedule is in place and operational.
  • Monitors and manages student facing work order system to include efficient completion of requests and generation of reports that can provide assessment data for outstanding work orders, completion and additional follow-up needed.
  • Documents, monitors and evaluates work assigned to Housing Facilities, contracted service vendors and others preforming work in the residence halls.
  • Provides coverage for managing Campus Housing 24x7 Crisis Response, including weekends and holidays. Available after hours for call outs and emergencies.
  • Oversees university employees in areas including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, painting, carpentry, general maintenance, preventative maintenance, project management and administrative and provides direction and clear instructions.
  • Hire, train, develop and manage staff to meet group objectives.
  • Develops and maintains proactive customer service orientation for staff; develops and maintains training, safety and recognition programs; evaluates supervisory staff and assists in training other department units as it relates to facilities and maintenance.
  • Develops and maintains positive departmental working relationships between housing officers, custodial staff, foremen, BSWs, and other Campus Housing units.
  • Provides leadership, guidance, mentorship and coaching to staff.
  • Sets priorities; monitor operations, staffing, methods and procedures, utilities, products; and direct improvement for efficiency and effectiveness assuring a safe and clean comfortable living and learning environment for students and working environment for staff.
  • Provides outreach to customers to include students, parents and staff as it relates to any facilities questions or concerns. Communicates both verbally in presentation and in writing.
  • Develops specifications for work performed in halls by vendors and provides quality control of products and services provided.
  • Assists with planning short- and long-range plans and budgeting for capital projects.
  • Manages budgets and revises expenditures as required.
  • Assures the accurate completion and maintenance of administrative functions such as: purchasing, payroll, leave management, hiring, training, and performance planning for housing areas.
  • Serves on related University committees, represents Campus Housing as requested and attends conferences and seminars as requested.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or required to meet Department and University goals and objectives.

Qualifications:

Minimum of a bachelor’s degree required: Master’s degree in Student Development, higher Education, management, Public administration or other related education field strongly preferred. Working knowledge of university policy and procedures. Working knowledge of databases and general computer skills.

Minimum of 5 years supervisory and budgetary experience, preferably in Higher Education.
