Metrea Special Aerospace -Vertical Applications (MSA-VA) [Formerly Special Applications Group (SAG)] is seeking experienced UH-72 (Lakota) Instructor Pilot (IP) for the ANG ATSOS program located in WAATS, Silver Bell Army Heliport, Marana, AZ.
IN-FLIGHT AIRCRAFT INSTRUCTOR PILOT – Contractor(s) shall provide in-flight instruction of AATS assigned UH-72 (Lakota) aircraft and instructor qualification courses, readiness level progressions, regional and foreign military training. Instructor Pilots will conduct associated Instructor Operator tasks and platform academic instruction in support of the AATS student training mission. The contractor(s) shall accomplish all training in accordance with AR 95-1, TRADOC Programs of Instruction (POI), UH-72 dATM and local AATS SOPs. All contractor Instructor Pilots will adhere to prescribed requirements IAW DCMA INST 8210-1C.
Note: At each supported location the Government’s Standardization Pilot will conduct a “check ride”, IAW the ATM, of the assigned IPs to train and certify the Contractor in the unit’s standard operating procedures, tactics, and standards. Upon successful completion of the check-ride the IP shall provide training within the bounds of AR 95-1 and the airframe respective ATM. IP’s shall capture data through the IOS and provide training assessments and input to AARs in accordance with the local and post flight procedures.
Essential Functions Statements
- Duties:
- Maintain training records on formal course students and in ATP records as required for unit, readiness level (RL) progression trainees.
- Provide instruction and evaluation to student pilots IAW Training Support Packages for AATS approved courses of instruction.
- Conduct daily academic instruction of approved POI (Aircraft Qualification Course, Instructor Pilot Course, Aircraft Standardization Course, Maintenance Test Pilot Course).
- Facilitate pre-mission planning and after-action reviews for all flights and simulation periods conducted.
- Complete all aircrew training program (ATP) requirements IAW DCMA INST 8210-1C, AR 95-1, and the applicable dATM. Contract pilot shall participate in No-notice evaluation program.
- Coordinate daily tasks and requirements (examples are work schedules, leaves, etc.) of contract employees to meet AATS missioned training requirements and schoolhouse accreditation as directed by AATS chains of command.
- Responsible for deliverables identified herein and shall ensure compliance with appropriate Army, National Guard and AATS policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Coordinate with the GFR to ensure all contractors are qualified to perform aviation-training tasks IAW DCMA INST 8210.1C
- Report Instructor Flight and Operation data in the Task Order Monthly Report.
- Must be competent and experienced as an UH-72 (Lakota) Instructor Pilot (IP).
Supervisory Responsibility
This role has no administrative supervisory responsibilities. This role does have aircraft Pilot-in-Command (PIC) and Instructor Pilot (IP) supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
This job operates in an administrative aviation, clerical, office, and Flight Line setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. This job requires academic, flight line and ground instructor pilot duties and aviation flight.
This is an active aviation flight role; aviation flight physical abilities are required.
This is a full-time position with typical working hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Hours and work shifts may change in accordance with department and business needs. Exempt Employees must have the ability to be on-call and available, as business needs require. Non-Exempt employees may be required to work over 40 hours per week with approval from the department manager.
- Located on Silver Bell Army Heliport, Marana, AZ the WAATS is a TRADOC OASS certified aviation training institution that conducts ARNG directed flight and academic instruction in the UH-60A/L/M and UH-72A aircraft, enlisted training for utility helicopter maintainers, non-commissioned officer professional military education, and ASI/MOS qualification training for flight operations. Additionally, the WAATS provides regional flight simulation support in the UH-60A/L/M, and the UH-72A, simulators for all Army components.

Travel requirements are: Generally, None. However, TDY by exception with COR Approval and Funding
Required Education, Experience and Certificates
Education: High School Diploma
Experience: UH-72 (Lakota) Instructor Pilot (IP) experience.
- Instructor Pilot experience with minimum of 250 military IP Flight Hours and / or 2 years IP experience at any USAACE approved or OASS accredited program.
- Flight time and operational experience will be considered to meet experience stated above based on a records review by the GFR IAW DCMA INST 8210-1C.
- USAACE/AATS (or equivalent Army approved NET) qualified IP in type aircraft for which duties will be performed.
- Instructor Training Course (ITC) or ABIC qualified; or successfully graduate from a AATS provided ABIC course within 12 months of contractor employee start date.
- Experience as an SP, IE and/or IP in a OASS school, MTOE or TDA organization at the company and/or battalion level.
- Must meet instructor qualification requirements IAW TR 350-10, TR 350-70.
- Contractors performing flight operations in the role of Rated Crewmember (Instructor Pilot, Instrument Flight Examiner, Standardization Instructor Pilot, Maintenance Test Pilot, Functional Check Pilot) or Non-Rated Crewmember (Flight Engineer Instructor, Flight Instructor, Crew Chief) shall adhere to minimum qualifications as prescribed by DCMA INST 8210.1C.
- Instrument Flight Examiners (IE), Standardization Instructor Pilots (SP), Instructor Pilots (IP), and Maintenance Evaluators (ME) designations apply only to contractor pilots (Army) contracted for the sole purpose of conducting aircraft qualification training and administration of the Aircrew Training Program (ATP). Contractor pilots in these designated positions shall meet all Army initial aircraft qualifications and recurrent training requirements per AR 95-1 and the applicable aircraft Digital Aircrew Training Module (dATM) (DCMA 8210.1C, para 4.3.4.3).
Certificates and Licenses:
- Qualified as an Instructor Pilot in the respective aircraft and desired Instrument Flight Examiner or have documented three years of experience as an Aviation IP / SIP in the UH-72 aircraft.
- UH-72 Instructor Pilots must be qualified to perform aviation-training tasks IAW DCMA INST 8210.1C.
- Qualifications shall be made available to the COR upon request.
- Prior experience training or operating with Army Aviation (or Military Equivalent).
- FAA Commercial Pilot or Airline Transport Pilot Certificate.
- FAA Second Class flight physical required. Army Contractor pilots have the option of maintaining either an annual FAA Second Class Medical Certificate or an Army Class 2 FDME.
- Secret security clearance.
- Valid Driver’s License
- COVID-19 Vaccination Card
Comply with the command's Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) for Government owned IS and sign an AUP prior to or upon account activation.
Preferred Education, Experience and Certificates
Education: High School Diploma
- IP experience at EAATS, HAATS, WAATS or U.S. Army Aviation Training Center.
- Desired USAACE qualified Instrument Flight Examiner (IFE)
