The department of Neurology Cognitive Program has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Research Associate 1 to work at UHealth Boca Raton. The Research Associate will be an integral part of multiple grant-funded projects that study how our neighborhood physical/built and social environments influence brain health in mid- to late-life. She/he will work as part of a team to collect, manage, and create geospatial/geographic information systems and other study data, and will assist with a variety of related research study tasks. The Research Associate will interface directly with the Principal Investigator and will participate in regular communication and meetings with the rest of the study team and outside collaborators.

  • Works closely with the Principal Investigator and other researchers as part of a multidisciplinary team.

  • Acquires and manages environmental and demographic data from publicly available sources such as the US Census Bureau, the US Geological Survey, and the US Forestry Service.

  • Assists in the development of neighborhood measures of the physical/built environment and social environment and mapping of data using ArcGIS and related geographic information systems (GIS) and mapping programs. Example GIS measures to be developed include the amount of neighborhood park land and the racial/ethnic composition of the neighborhood.

  • Assists in the preparation of research study documents, reports, manuscripts for journal publication, and conference presentations.

  • Assists in communications and coordination with study team members and collaborators located at University of Miami and other institutions.

  • Participates in regular meetings to keep the study team updated on progress of tasks and to ask questions to keep the project on track.

  • Demonstrates critical judgment to maintain data security and confidentiality.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field required

  • No prior experience required.

  • Preferred, O ne(1) year of related experience.

  • Pertinent fields for the area of specialization and work experience include urban planning, public health, environmental science, Geographic Information Systems, geography, and social sciences, and similar disciplines.

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Experience using ArcGIS and other mapping software is preferred.

  • Experience using Microsoft office (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook) and Adobe (Adobe Acrobat DC/Adobe Professional) software .

  • Excellent organizational, written, and verbal communication skills.

  • Attention to detail.

  • Team player.

  • Ability to learn quickly.

  • Ability to work independently and complete tasks on time without frequent reminders.

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks/projects.
