Registered Dietitian

Essential Responsibilities:

• Assesses nutritional status of patients in long term care, acute care, and swing bed settings.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate outcomes of the nutrition care plan.
• Monitor progress and initiate changes in care plan as required to ensure appropriate use of oral/enteral nutrition regimens.
• Provides nutrition education for patients, family members/care takers, and other members of the health care team.
• Participates in and/or conducts clinical nutrition outcomes as part of Quality Assurance meetings.
• Participate as a member of the health care interdisciplinary team for Pulmonary Rehab program and Outpatient Nutrition Services program for the health system.
• Assist Dietary Manager (when needed) with dietary department in-services/meetings and management procedures.
• Initiates initial, quarterly, and annual nutrition assessments and nutrition care plans for patients, including those on enteral nutrition support, those receiving wound care per facility guidelines, those with significant weight changes per weekly, and monthly weight reports, all using the nutrition care process.
• Assesses nutritional status, identify nutrition problems, and formulate a comprehensive care plan according to patient needs including age, cognitive, social, and physical developmental stage, culture, severity of diseases, conditions of impairment or disability, and physical signs of malnutrition.
• Determine nutrition goals and recommend comprehensive nutrition interventions to resolve or improve nutrition problems and achieve goals, including but not limited to: fluid, electrolyte, and glucose management.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited program in Food, Nutrition, and Dietetics and a completed Dietetic Internship.

Experience: Previous RD experience preferred.

License(s), Certification(s), Registration(s) Required: RD credential from the Commission on Dietetic Registration and Dietitian License from the MS State Department of Health.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of Registered Dietitian principles and techniques. Capable of monitoring nutritional progress and reassess statuses as needed. Knowledge ofmanagerial functions such as ability to solve practical problems, maintain a budget, report writing and performance improvement tools. Good computer skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Excellent interpersonal communication skills for interaction with staff, patients, and medical professionals. Ability to prioritize and manage several tasks at one time. Skills in planning, coordinating, and measuring departmental activities.
