The City of Cedar Hill is now accepting applications for the position of Police Officer! TCOLE certification is not required to apply though preference may be given to candidates with a current TCOLE license. TCOLE-certified candidates with two (2) or more years of sworn police experience are eligible for a $10,000 hiring incentive and candidates with less than two (2) years of sworn police experience are eligible for a $5,000 hiring incentive. Restrictions apply.

Salary Structure
- Non-Certified Starting Salary $63,050/yr
- Certified/Experienced Starting Salary $65,000/yr minimum
- A possible additional increase upon successful completion of FTO Program
- Additional pay available for advanced certifications and education!
Applicants who meet all requirements and are eligible to move forward in the recruitment process will be notified via email with instructions for completing the Cedar Hill Police Department's Personal History Statement (PHS). Once the applicant has completed and submitted their PHS, it will be reviewed by a member of the department's Professional Standards Division. Candidates approved to test, based on PHS submission, will be contacted by a member of the department's Professional Standards Division to set up an appointment to take the Entrance Exam and Physical Readiness Test. The Entrance Exam and Physical Readiness Test will take place the same day.
- Enforces State, Federal and traffic laws and City ordinances by patrolling the City, its people and property, recognizing violations and citing individuals for violations.
- Coordinates crime scenes and preliminary investigations by responding to residential and commercial incidents, traffic and other accidents, reports of driving while intoxicated, assaults, violence, unexplained deaths, arresting suspects and violators, then securing the scene, maintaining logs, observing and collecting evidence, assisting victims and families and writing necessary reports.
- Monitors traffic in City by responding to traffic accidents, initiating routine traffic stops, enforcing traffic laws, providing funeral and wedding escorts and initiating high risk felony stops.
- Participates in necessary court procedures by testifying in criminal, civil and juvenile cases, signing complaints and reviewing and signing affidavits. Must be able to render credible testimony in a court of law
- Performs numerous civic duties by maintaining positive relationships with the community and city departments, transports victims and suspects, maintains police equipment, problem-solves with citizens and businesses, and performs community services.
- Increases job proficiency by conducting and participating in a variety of training programs and staying abreast of new innovations and developments in the field of law enforcement and investigation.
- Provides premier customer service to internal and external customers by responding to requests in a timely and professional manner
- Regular attendance required.
- Age: Must be 21 years of age at the time of written exam.

- Must be able to obtain U.S. Citizenship by time of final job offer.
- Must be able to pass written exam, job task simulation, oral board interview, background check, physical exam, physical readiness test, polygraph and psychological tests and any other screening test or process.
- Must have valid Texas driver's license or be eligible to obtain a Texas Driver's license within 30 days of final job offer.
- Education: Requires high school/GED required. Candidates with prior military or law enforcement experience must have been honorably discharged, as reflected on discharge forms (DD214 for military service, F5 for law enforcement service, or equivalent). College credit is not required to apply, however, candidates with less than 30 college credit hours will be required to attend the Law Enforcement Academy for college credit, meeting all necessary college admission requirements and requirements for continued enrollment during the academy.
TCOLE requirement for license (RULE ยง217.1):
- Candidates may not have ever been convicted of an offense above the grade of a Class B misdemeanor or a Class B misdemeanor within the last ten years.
- Candidates may never have been convicted of any family violence offense.
- Candidates must not be currently charged with any criminal offense for which conviction would be a bar to licensure.
- Candidates must not have had a commission license denied by final order or revoked.
- Candidates must not be currently on suspension, or have a voluntary surrender of license currently in effect.
- Candidates must meet the minimum training standards and pass the commission licensing examination (TCOLE) for each license sought.
- Candidates must not have had a commission license denied by final order or revoked.
