BRIEF DESCRIPTION:
The purpose of this position is to plan, coordinate, and manage the recreation programs and special events. This is accomplished by determining community interests, researching new programs, creating classes, securing staff, vendors, instructors and volunteers, and marketing programs, special events and services. Other duties include producing promotional materials, ordering supplies and equipment, and supervising staff. This position is geared towards sports programs.

1 L Regular and reliable attendance in compliance with given schedules is a mandatory requirement of this position. Schedules may be subject to change with or without advance notice
2 L Plans and coordinates new programs, special events, concerts, camps and classes by researching, planning, marketing, and engaging instructors, negotiating contract terms, securing materials and supplies, scheduling space, submitting budget recommendations, monitoring and evaluating programs, meeting minimum established enrollment standards, and processing payments.
3 L Meets annual budget goals and oversees budget activities by recommending supplies, equipment, materials and staffing, monitoring expenses, researching new materials, special events, camps, classes.
4 S Oversees staff and volunteer activities by scheduling and monitoring tasks and activities, completing background checks as appropriate, maintaining and/or reviewing time and attendance records, processing payroll, training staff, enforcing department policy, and overseeing daily functions.
5 S Produces and distributes marketing materials by gathering information for activities and events, compiling information into respective formats, working with printers to produce final products, proofreading and editing contents, and distributing materials.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Formal Education Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative, or technical nature that may be obtained with six-months/one year of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency. Junior college, vocational, business, technical or correspondence schools are likely sources. Appropriate certification may be awarded upon satisfactory completion of advanced study or training.
Experience Over one year up to and including two years
Supervision Work requires supervising and monitoring performance for a regular group of employees or division including providing input on hiring/disciplinary actions and work objectives/effectiveness, performance evaluations, and realigning work as needed. A first line supervisor typically performs these functions.
Human Collaboration Skills Work may require providing advice to others outside direct reporting relationships on specific problems or general policies. Contacts may require the consideration of different points of view to reach agreement. Elements of persuasion may be necessary to gain cooperation and acceptance of ideas.
Freedom to Act Receives General Direction: The employee normally performs the job by following established standard operating procedures and/or policies. There is a choice of the appropriate procedure or policy to apply to duties. Performance is reviewed periodically.
Technical Skills Skilled – Work requires a comprehensive, practical knowledge of a technical field with use of analytical judgment and decision-making abilities appropriate to the work environment of the organization.
Budget Responsibility Prepares budget documents; and does research to justify language used in documents for a unit or division of a department. May recommend budget allocations.
Reading Intermediate – Ability to read papers, periodicals, journals, manuals, dictionaries, thesauruses, and encyclopedias. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in high school up to college. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.
Math Intermediate – Ability to deal with system of real numbers; practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios/proportions and measurement. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in high school up to college. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.
Writing Intermediate – Ability to write reports, prepare business letters, expositions, and summaries with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar, using all parts of speech. Ordinarily, such education is obtained in high school up to college. However, it may be obtained from experience and self-study.
