POSITION SUMMARY: The YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit is seeking positive role models who are caring, outgoing, creative, love to have fun, enjoy being outside, and want to make a positive impact in the lives of youth in our after school programs.The primary responsibility of Metro Youth YMCA Classroom Lead is to supervise and engage kids to ensure their safety and fun while at CEC. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Plan, assist, and implement program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate and consistent with YMCA core values for participants. • Be willing to dress up, save the world, sing a song and lose the game when needed. • Ensure a safe and nurturing environment; attending to the needs of participants at all times.
- Serve as a role model for all youth participating in the day after school program by displaying exemplary behavior at all times and modeling healthy eating and physical activity. • Be welcoming to all participants, parents and other staff. • Consciously create a climate in the program to foster the goals and objectives of the YMCA of Metropolitan Detroit. • Directly supervise a group of youth of 6-12 youth • Following YMCA procedure on reporting behavioral issues to the program leads • Responsible for attending Weikert Youth Work Methods Workshops • Foster positive relationship opportunities amongst the participants in your group and within the whole after school.
- Attend all staff meetings and trainings. • Assume equal responsibility for general housekeeping tasks. • Following YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical situations and behavior management, child abuse prevention and emergencies. • Will be available through the final day of the program, July 30.
- This job description may not be all-inclusive and the employee is expected to perform all other duties as assigned by direct management. • Job descriptions and duties may be modified when deemed appropriate by management. • Assist in parent in any parent pick up a NWAC. • Learn partnering organizations lesson plans to assist in the delivery of daily activities QUALIFICATIONS: • Must be 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or equivalent required. • Experience working with youth is preferred. • Meets the requirements set forth by the state-licensing agency. Documentation of DHS clearance prior to starting work, TB skin test within 30 days, and CPR, First Aid, AED, and Child Safe certifications are required within 60 days.
- Complete Blood Borne Pathogens training, Redwoods, and concussion training as required. • Must complete successful background screening and drug test for YMCA and all other off-site screenings for partnering organizations. WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS: • Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time. • Ability to plan, lead and participate in all physical activities • Ability to sit and stand from a seated position on the floor when interacting with children.
