JOB DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Marketing Manager / Design Teacher

Employment Classification: Full-time, Salary, Exempt

Reports to: Director of Development / Assistant Head of School

Position Summary: The Marketing Manager / Design Teacher is responsible for managing the marketing functions for all of Samueli Academy’s development and instructional efforts. Leads creation and implementation of collateral, marketing campaigns, social media, newsletter and website content, relating to fundraising, donor solicitations, and instruction. Teaches 2-3 classes yearly within our Design pathway. Instruction features a 1:1 Chromebook program and is centered on Project-Based Learning, a collaborative, respectful culture, and an emphasis on 21st century skills. This teacher will collaborate with other teachers, integrating curricula whenever possible.

Major Areas of Responsibility (Marketing Manager):

  • Develop, implement, and analyze campaigns to help generate revenue through print and digital media, including the Year-end, spring campaigns, and monthly donors.
  • Support the Leadership and Development team by developing all donor related collateral, and creating an ethical, timely content database. o
  • Collaborate with the Leadership and Development team to create a social media calendar, creating and posting timely relevant and compelling content on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn and Twitter.
  • Manages print and digital ads to ensure full delivery and maximize performance for giving campaigns and events.
  • Frequently capture pictures of Samueli Academy events.
  • Contribute to regular communications with targeted content to a segmented donor audience, including newsletter creation.
  • Develop, implement, and analyze marketing strategies for Samueli Academy fundraising events, including event websites, sponsor benefits, and donation pages.
  • Support the Leadership and Development teams in other marketing efforts as needed.

Major Areas of Responsibility (Design Teacher):

  • Using advanced technology skills in the classroom, this teacher’s instructional practices should focus on raising achievement for a wide range of learners.
  • Must be a creative, collaborative, flexible teacher willing to innovate and implement Problem or Project-Based Learning.
  • Have a willingness to explore team-teaching with other teachers, to collaborate with higher education faculty, and to commit to working on collaborative teams.
  • All teachers at Samueli Academy will advise students in intra-class relations and in personal learning plan development through a weekly advisory program.

Knowledge, Skill, and Experience Requirements:

  • 3+ years in Marketing/Communications role (+/-) education in related field.
  • If no industry experience, the candidate must hold a valid California teaching credential (or certification if teaching a specialized subject) authorizing teaching in assigned classroom/subject matter and the equivalent of CLAD Certification.
  • If not credentialed, the candidate must be willing to acquire a CTE (Career Technical Education) Credential that requires 3+ years of industry experience in Design.
  • Experience working in a school setting is desired but not required.
  • Project-based learning experience preferred.
  • Ability to teach and assess your content via Samueli Academy’s School-Wide Learning Outcomes: Oral Communication, Written Communication, and Collaboration.
  • Experience in engaging students in hands-on learning while maintaining academic rigor.
  • Able to teach diverse learners and well-versed in instructional strategies for serving a wide range of students.
  • Experienced in integrating technology into their teaching and can support student learning using technology.
  • Collaborative, skilled in interdisciplinary planning, and able to work well with a wide range of constituents (colleagues, parents, students, community members, etc.).
  • Knowledge and use of the following software desired: Basic html, Adobe InCopy, Photoshop, Illustrator, Canva, and InDesign for content editing, event/social media marketing tools, Constant Contact or similar.
  • Knowledge of WordPress is desired.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficient in Google Suite applications.
  • Possess a valid California driver’s license and proof of automobile insurance. Position requires DMV clearance.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check, FBI/DOJ fingerprinting, TB test, and drug test.

  • Experience in writing, and communication across a range of channels and for a variety of internal and external stakeholders. o
  • Experience in market research, analyzing and using data to drive strategies. o
  • Ability to work both collaboratively and independently to meet fundraising and school goals. o
  • Understands the issues impacting underserved youth, especially youth who have experienced foster care. o
  • Ability to maintain positive personal and professional relationships with a wide variety of individuals and stakeholders in a range of demanding situations. o
  • An active knowledge of Samueli Academy's mission and programs is required along with professional understanding of marketing and fundraising objectives and best practices. o
  • Ability to engage, inspire, and teach Samueli Academy students within a classroom environment.

Working Environment/Physical Requirements: Position may require use of personal vehicle. Physical requirements include standing, sitting, typing, bending and lifting up to approximately 25 lbs. (i.e., tables, chairs, food, water, etc.)
