The Mammography Supervisor oversees day to day operations of the mammography department including patient flow and MQSA quality assurance. Receiving direction from the Breast Health Manager, operates mammographic equipment and devices to perform breast imaging examinations of diagnostic quality for radiologist interpretation. Performs screening, diagnostic, specimen and interventional examinations conforming to image and data-integrity quality standards, staff education, coaching, development, support and promotion of customer relations, and monitoring of activities to ensure performance standards are achieved.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Mammography Technologist Functions
1. Perform Mammographic studies using a Tomographic (2D and 3D) device; prepares and positions patient, sets imaging parameters and compression, performs computer processing and displays images.

  • Recognize equipment related QA issues. Review results with Operations Manager and report any potential equipment related problems..
  • Prepare for and perform Breast procedures to include but not limited to the use of the upright mammographic stereo device and needle localizations. Communicate patient history to radiologist.
  • Prepare and perform specimen imaging and processing for laboratory pathology analysis.
  • Assist Operations Manager in developing, reviewing and revising schedules and workflows for patient studies.
  • Instruct visitors and medical staff when visiting the unit; instruction may include: patient procedures, processing, equipment operation, safety practices, etc.
  • Maintain a neat work environment, including patient care areas, Mammographic scan and control rooms and reading areas.
  • Assist department staff members in various duties as necessary, i.e. scheduling, taking stock inventory and filing. Adjusts equipment to correct setting for procedures.
  • Positions and instructs patients regarding the procedure.
  • Determines the proper imaging technique and patient positioning to maximize exam quality.
  • Arranges, attaches or adjusts supportive devices to prevent the patient from moving and to aid in some comfort during localization.
  • Adjusts lead shields to protect unaffected parts from exposure to radiation as requested by patient.
  • Positions equipment.
  • Repeats exposure procedure from slightly different angles as pre- scribed by physician and or radiologist.
  • Responsible for the complete image process, including transmission of images and verification of images on the MGB enterprise archive.
  • Provides on-the-job training to x-ray students as assigned.

2) Leadership Practice

  • Work collaboratively with the Imaging management and staff to pro-actively support the daily workflows in Breast Imaging
  • Review patient schedules to attain quality compliance as needed.
  • Completes annual staff reviews in a timely fashion.
  • Works with the Operations Manager to set staff goals.
  • Provides staff corrective actions following Just Culture algorithms.
  • Documents corrective actions in Performance Manager.
  • Oversee daily workflows to include proper patient screening and history intake.
  • Maintain staff schedules to include vacations and unscheduled ET for Breast Imaging.
  • Process and address patient complaints with managers and patient advocates.
  • When needed, oversee activities of Mammography students and sign off on educational competencies.

3) Administrative responsibilities:

  • Inventory and order supplies as needed.
  • Arrange in-service trainings for staff development.
  • Communicate safety policies to staff.
  • Attend meetings on the main campus or teleconference as needed.
  • Perform other-related duties as assigned or requested
  • Provides perspective consultation and assists in the horning and termination process.


Experience Minimum Required

o A minimum of three years’ experience as a mammography technologist

Experience Preferred/Desired
o 3+ years supervisor experience

Education Minimum Required
o Associates degree from an approved radiology training program

Special Skills Minimum Required
o Computer manipulation, verbal and written communication skills, mechanical aptitude.
o Ability to work independently as well as in a collaborative manner.
o Ability to make effective professional judgement and decisions based on objective criteria.

Licensure and/or Certifications Required
o NH State Medical Imaging License
o ARRT, Certified Mammography and Radiology
o AHA or ARC BLS
