Position Description Maintenance Technician
The Maintenance Technician performs highly diversified duties including but not limited to: the installation, maintenance, and repair of production equipment; repair of fixtures or facilities; repair or replacement of windows, doors, or other structural components; moving of office furniture; preparation and painting of facilities and equipment; electrical repairs, etc.
Essential Duties He/she performs regular preventive maintenance on machines, equipment and plant facilities as scheduled. The position reads and interprets equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance, diagnose problems, replace, rebuild or repair parts.

  • The Technician carefully reviews blueprints, building codes, or specifications to determine work details or procedures before beginning a project. He/she consults with topic experts as needed to ensure repairs or modifications are appropriate, cost effective and compliant.
  • The position is responsible for diagnosing electrical or mechanical malfunctions or failures and performing preventative/corrective maintenance. He/she uses test equipment and various tools to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem; inspect systems, equipment, and electrical components to identify hazards, defects, or the need for repairs.
  • The position is responsible for performing a variety of basic plumbing tasks: i.e. repairing clogged drains, backed-up sinks, etc. He/she installs pipe assemblies, fittings, valves, or appliances and fixtures such as dishwashers, water heaters, sinks or toilets, using hand or power tools.
  • The Technician is responsible for performing a variety of basic carpentry functions including: planning, constructing or repairing a wide variety of structures such as platforms, flooring, office partitions, modular furniture including accessories and components, work benches, stairs, cabinets, doors, locks, windows, moldings, frames, and furniture.
  • He/she installs and repairs metal doors and jambs; patches, seals, and repairs small roof problems; handles the construction, installation, repair, and removal of dry wall type construction using wood, metal or other type studs and installs insulation in walls and ceilings.
  • He/she performs emergency repairs as needed; keeps his or her work area clean and orderly; maintains daily log of repairs and preventative maintenance; and, complies with safety regulations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or needed.

Environment and Physical Activity
The environment for this position is outdoors or in an open production area that is subject weather conditions including extreme heat – temperatures can potentially rise to 100 degrees or more for periods of more than one hour; noise that is sufficient to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level; hazards including working close to moving mechanical parts, power tools, electrical currents, exposure to chemicals and working at elevated levels. The worker may be subject to fumes, odors, dusts or mists.

In the course of performing the duties of the position the worker spends time speaking, listening, lifting (up to 75 pounds), carrying, sitting, pulling, pushing, squatting, kneeling, reaching, and stooping for prolonged periods; there is constant walking/standing/climbing.

Safety awareness and compliance with safety regulations is vital. Workers must wear special safety equipment such as masks and gloves, etc., as is appropriate for the job.
Mental Demands
The incumbent in this position must be able to: read and interpret documents or instruments, perform highly detailed work, assist or guide problem solving, perform complex mathematical functions, perform analytical reasoning, handle multiple, concurrent tasks and constant interruptions.
Position Requirements
These specifications are general guidelines based on the minimum experience normally considered essential to the satisfactory performance of this position. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to perform the position in a satisfactory manner.

  • Requires a high school diploma/GED and completion of a craft apprenticeship, or an equivalent number of years of education and production maintenance experience; an AA degree in mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance a plus; 4+ years of maintenance experience in manufacturing, hospital or hospitality environment is required; strong electrical and mechanical skills are essential.
  • Must be highly motivated and able to work independently; must be available to work overtime when required.
  • Must be able to read, comprehend, and interpret technical reference manuals, blueprints, wiring diagrams, electrical/pneumatic schematics and ladder logic diagrams.
  • Must have experience operating forklifts and other material handling equipment and have experience using a variety of hand and power tools, electric meters, etc.
  • Must possess and maintain valid Florida Driver’s License.
  • Must be capable of climbing to heights of approximately sixty (30) feet, as well as climbing over equipment of varying heights.
