You believe that school is preparation for life, more than simply the next level of school. You are passionate about Elementary School. It has its own unique character and personality and that’s what draws you to elementary school teaching. You love teaching and supporting students through these years of growth and change and enjoy contributing to their academic, social and emotional development. An advocate, a guide and a strong supporter of your students - that’s you. Just as in life outside the classroom, you believe that students with different backgrounds, gender identities, and learning abilities benefit from working together. Supporting your students energizes you. You love coming to school to work with them. You are solution oriented and like to contribute to a positive, enjoyable working environment.

You are independent and confident in the classroom. You understand team dynamics and work well with teams of other educators and administrators. You are an excellent communicator and see parents as your partners in their child's education. When making decisions, you focus on how we can best serve our students and parents, always looking for a way in which we can make ASH just that extra bit better for them. You recognize that learning is not confined to a classroom or a timetable. Having an open mind and being able to give and receive constructive feedback is something you pride yourself on. As a lifelong learner you are energized by new ideas, professional development and sharing your learning with your colleagues.

You are a highly qualified and professional Elementary School Special Education Teaching Assistant. You have a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent university degree preferred. You have at least five years of successful teaching experience in U.S. or international elementary schools providing inclusive access for atypical children. You have demonstrated your skills in differentiating instruction, cooperative learning and collaboration. You integrate technology into your instruction and see IT as an enabler for you and for students.

In addition you;

  • Understand the general concepts of child growth and development, and have current knowledge of special education interventions and strategies.

  • Possess a respectful and patient attitude toward students while fostering independent work and social habits.

  • Respect the cultural differences of our international families.

The Role:
The Elementary School Special Education TA works under the supervision of the special education teacher and reports to the Student Support Director. You modify curriculum under the guidance of the special education teacher, when appropriate. You provide appropriate accommodations that enable students to access grade curriculum, when appropriate. You maintain confidentiality of information relating to the school and students. You attend mainstream classes with the students and you implement accommodations and/or modifications as necessary. You direct parents' questions regarding students’ behavior and instruction to the special education teacher. You observe, record and report on the behavior of students as requested. You supervise students at recess, lunch, during transitions and other non-instructional times. You accompany students on field trips and project trips. You support the classroom teacher with photocopying, laminating, filing, preparing and organizing instructional materials. You assist with the set up and clean up of the classroom and supplies.
