The department of Athletics at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a Director of Player Relations for WVU Football.

About the Opportunity

The Director of Player Relations will engage with football student-athletes on a daily basis, supporting their development both on and off the field. This position will communicate with the head coach daily and ensure that we are constantly operating in a manner to build a positive culture. In addition, the Director of Player Relations will work closely with coaches, staff, and external constituents, all in an effort to maximize the student-athlete experience.

What You'll Do

  • Enforce program’s culture by having a daily presence at study hall, mandatory meals, weight room, training room, and other student-athlete events and activities.
  • Daily communication with Head Football Coach on pulse of team and assist with the organization of Head Football Coach and player meetings.
  • Assist Head Football Coach with: Leadership Council, Player discipline (log disciplinary infractions), Player counseling meetings, Educational meetings / materials for student-athletes.
  • Responsible for all roll calls, including but not limited to team meetings and meals.
  • Manage offseason accountability teams.
  • Support operations of the 5th Quarter program, including expert educational programming for the five pillars, including: Character Development, Leadership Development, Real Life, Social Responsibility, and Career Development.
  • Organize locker room assignments and team meeting room layout.
  • Ensure player attendance at select events, including position dinners at Head Coach’s house.
  • Assist GA’s and administrators as mentors to at-risk student-athletes.
  • Execute onboarding for transfer student-athletes.
  • Manage all player housing and coordinate bed check for home and away games.
  • Coordinate mental health education program for student-athletes.
  • Direct and execute all player drug testing with Head Athletic Trainer.
  • Liaison to sport psychologist, counseling center, campus/city law enforcement, student conduct, student life, drug and alcohol assistance, student-athlete development, campus recreation, housing, admissions, and other student-centered areas/programs.
  • Liaison for financial aid and stipend checks.
  • Lead Big Brother program.
  • Manage player vehicle registration/license/insurance/gun registration.
  • Update Teamworks/Arms to ensure most up-to-date and accurate information.
  • Report directly to the Assistant Athletic Director of Football Operations; work closely with coaches and athletic administrative staff and with all others involved with carrying out the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletic program.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned by the Head Football Coach and the Assistant Athletic Director of Football Operations.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • A minimum of two (2) years of experience in college athletics as a player, coach, or staff member or a related field.
  • Maintain high standard of ethics and integrity related to intercollegiate athletics.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA Division I intercollegiate athletics.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA and conference guidelines, policies, rules and regulations with the ability to interpret, apply, enforce and explain such policies and rules.
  • Successfully complete NCAA certification exam annually.
  • Maintain knowledge of state and University policies and procedures.
  • Exhibit strong creative, organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of correct English, grammar, spelling, punctuation and sentence structure.
  • Demonstrated ability in public speaking skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to function professionally under high stress and confrontational circumstances.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks for extended period of time.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently plan and organize work.
  • Proactive attitude towards work and assignments.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain and develop personal contacts with outside groups, i.e. student-athletes, professional representatives, fans, media, donors, University community.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of record keeping and adherence to schedule. Ability to stay abreast of information impacting the affected area.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and motivate groups and individuals.
  • Ability to maintain proper unit attendance and punctuality standards, work extended hours including nights and weekends (often with extensive walking and standing).
  • Demonstrated skills in management of an intercollegiate football program.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of effected areas of involvement.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage personnel.
  • Ability to make administrative / procedural decisions and judgments.
