Description:

Position Summary

Collects and reviews patient benefits to determine the estimated out-of-pocket costs for patient care on an individual basis and informs patients of available resources for charges incurred, as needed.

Essential Job Duties

  • Reviews new patient insurance for authorization or referral requirements, as applicable.
  • Performs preliminary financial screening, identifying red flags prior to consultation/evaluation. Advises patient of findings prior to initial encounter.
  • Performs comprehensive financial screening of medical, professional, rehabilitation, and home health and prescription drug benefits following initial authorization clearance.
  • Provides detailed written documentation of financial responsibility after meeting with patients.
  • Attends departmental meetings to present financial considerations to key personnel, as applicable.
  • Keeps appropriate staff apprised of all changes to patient’s financial requirements. Makes changes to financial screening protocol, as necessary.
  • Applies department processes for applicable financial assistance programs. Demonstrates knowledge of Federal and State requirements for assistance to patients with an inability to pay.

Qualifications Required

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized college or significant work experience in lieu of degree

Work Experience

  • Five years related experience
  • Knowledge of third party reimbursement (contracting and non-contracting) and eligibility requirements for all subsidy programs
  • Knowledge of Commercial/Government coverage
  • Knowledge/ability to obtain insurance benefit verification
  • Knowledge CPT/ICD10 - Preferred
