As a cook, you’ll be part of a team that is committed to delivering exceptional services to children and their families at our Wellspring New Directions campus in Farmington Hills. You will bring a high school diploma or equivalent and 3 years work experience in food services.

As a cook at Wellspring New Directions in Farmington Hills, here is some of what you will be responsible for:

  • Prepare wholesome, balanced meals for youth in care. Prepare special diet meals when authorized or ordered by physician, dietician, or nutritionist. Assure compliance with all physicians’ orders and known allergies.
  • Prepare menus in accordance with sound and contemporary principles of nutrition. Select foods and preparation techniques/recipes that are both healthy and appealing. At direction of supervisor, secure feedback from staff/residents as part of planning menus. Create a warm, welcoming environment as much as possible within constraints of facility and budget.
  • Order and purchase food in accordance with agency budget from vendors offering greatest value for the dollar.
  • Assure that the kitchen, storage areas, kitchen equipment, refrigeration equipment etc., are maintained in a clean, safe and functional condition as required by Health Department and other guidelines. Report needed repairs to the appropriate personnel.
  • Follow center procedures in the preparations, storage, and inventory of food and equipment. Leave the kitchen in a clean condition at shift end.
  • Supervise and instruct youth during their kitchen duties and meal times /clean up as assigned. Maintain supervision of residents assigned to work in kitchen in accordance with agency procedures.
  • Maintain inventory of food and daily knife/fork counts and other security procedures.
  • Record the number of meals served at each meal for purposes of reporting to the School Lunch Program.
  • Assist with planning and preparation of special events for outside groups and special occasions
