What You Will Do

Join our world class computing organization! eXperience Information Technology (XIT) division is seeking an energetic and customer-focused Windows and Mac OS X System Administrator for the XIT Institutional Systems Services (XIT-ISS) group. Our diverse work group consists of approximately 65 professionals, technicians, and students. The successful candidate will be providing dedicated desktop support services to an assigned customer base in various locations across the laboratory. The successful candidate will provide day-to-day technical support services for XIT-ISS customers in a heterogeneous computing environment.

This position will be filled at either the CST-4 or CST-5 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

Computing Systems Tec 4 (CST-4) ($67,800 - $107,700)

The successful candidate will perform the full spectrum of remote and field level Windows and Mac desktop administration, including but not limited to:

  • Support Windows and Mac desktop systems on the unclassified network including Installing, configuring and troubleshooting desktop, or mobile systems, workstations, and network issues including, wireless and role-based access control in a heterogeneous environment

  • Ticketmaster role and responsibilities

  • Resolve issues or fulfill requests through Windows and Mac remote desktop support

  • Troubleshoot issues through on-site Tech Desk and remote field support

  • Setup and installation of hardware and software

Computing Systems Tec 5 (CST-5) ($75,100 - $119,200)

In addition to the above, the successful candidate will perform the following, including but not limited to:

  • Proactively managing systems utilizing Active Directory

  • Researching emerging technologies, new industry trends, and hardware and software tools and solutions

  • Experience with managing projects to fulfill customer technical needs

  • Communicating technical information to both technical and non-technical personnel

  • Willing to learn and provide support for Windows server and thin clients hardware and infrastructure

  • Provide outstanding customer service, including working with customers to resolve issues remotely and on-site tech desk

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated extensive knowledge of Windows and Mac OS X system administration

  • Experience troubleshooting problems using Bomgar, SCCM Remote, or similar desktop automation systems to remotely administer systems

  • Experience researching, installing, and troubleshooting, hardware, software and encryption issues

  • Experience working well in a team environment as well as working independently to provide outstanding customer service and resolve customer issues

  • Must have organizational and time management skills

Additional Job Requirements for the CST-5:

In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Windows Server support and administration

  • Experience using configuration management tools

  • Mentoring and Training team members

Education/Experience at lower level: Position requires a High School diploma or equivalency and 4 years directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. Technical Institute graduation or AA degree may be preferred.

Education/Experience at higher level: Position requires a High School diploma or equivalency and 6 years directly related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation.

Desired Qualifications:

  • UNIX/Linux system administration experience

  • Vendor certification (Apple Mac or Microsoft Windows)

  • JAMF administration experience

  • SCCM administration experience

  • Working knowledge or familiarity with Windows and/or Mac Server Administration

Work Location: The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos, NM. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.

Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
