Catering Services & Operations Manager
Job description
The prestigious New York Athletic Club, one of the world's premier private clubs, founded in 1868 located on Central Park South in Manhattan is seeking a Catering Services and Operations Manager. The individual will operate in the Club’s facilities for private banquets, weddings, special celebratory occasions, or member activities. Will oversee both administrative and operational aspects of preparing and holding the event.
The candidate for this position will assist the Clubhouse Manager in all the aspects of banquet functions, supervising banquet employees, preparing schedules for captains, wait staff, and banquet houseman, prepare payroll and employee attendance reports, assist with designing floor plans, communicate, assign, and delegate responsibility and authority for service of catering events to banquet service staff. Coordinate food, beverages, table arrangements, decoration, outside vendor services and assuring completion as specified by client.
Requirements:
- Coordinates the needs of Club members and guests who are planning private parties through email, written communications, telephone, and face to face meetings.
- Obtains pertinent information from member/guest including number of persons expected, seating arrangements, decorations, music and entertainment.
- May show member/guest through facilities offering suggestions in effort to sell the merits of the Club facilities for the occasion.
- May suggest menu or help guest plan menu in conjunction with the Travers Island Manager and Executive Chef.
- Inspects finished arrangements and adds final touches at last moment; may be present to oversee the actual service and greeting guests.
- Coordinates room set-ups, audio visual requirements, entertainment requirements, etc. for a particular event.
- Supervise, train, mentor, and discipline banquet staff for the efficient operation of the Club's banquet department.
- Clearly communicate, assign, and delegate responsibility and authority for the service of catered events to banquet service staff.
- Regularly reviews the level of member acceptance of individual banquets to ensure product is meeting member needs.
This position requires an energetic and detailed oriented candidate with a minimum of five years in a high-volume, high-quality hotel or private club operation. The ideal candidate must have strong organizational and time management skills.
This position is located at the Travers Island Westchester property.
