Upholstery Specialist

The Upholstery specialist is to perform a wide variety of tasks in a pre-owned boat reconditioning facility, including pattern making & digitalization, upholstering, assembling, fitting, cutting material, and installing. The specialist is also responsible to manage upholstery vendors.
Position Overview
- Produce high quality boat bimini tops, covers and custom products from a variety of fabrics and materials.
- Complete repairs on various types of canvas products.
- Install hardware such as boots, snaps and locks.
- Manage external seating upholstery vendor relationships, track order delivery and perform quality inspection on finished products.
- Perform spot fix and other quick jobs for marine seatings. Identify long term opportunity to move outsourced partial and full replacement of seating upholstery in house. Tasks may include:Assemble tack and fine tune marine seating components
Install foam cushioning onto seating substrates
Wrap foam cushioning with sewn vinyl skins
Align seams and seating features
Ensure products meet quality standards
Inspect substrates and skins for defects and address as needed prior to upholstery application
- Discuss complications or potential delays with supervisors and brainstorm solutions for increased productivity.
- Basic machine and work area maintenance/housekeeping.
Requirements
- Industrial sewing machine experience.
- Experience working with marine-grade materials such as canvas and vinyl preferred.
- Experience with pattern making for reupholstery preferred.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to prioritize multiple assignments to meet deadlines and goals.
- Ability to read and understand production schedule and maintain time studies for production status and communication.
- Ability to read and understand job descriptions and prints.
- Ability to read and understand measuring equipment.
- Ability to operate staple guns, nail guns, da sander, snap set, hammers, hot-knife cutters, and other industrial equipment.
- Working knowledge of procedures, instructions, and documents as it relates to the quality system.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Must be able to adapt to changing requirements in a positive and proactive way.
- Ability to interact professionally and effectively with all levels within the organization and with external vendors.
- Must be flexible to work extended hours to support the requirements of the business.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Shift: Must have the availability to work from 7:00 am – 3:30 pm Monday - Friday. Overtime may be required on Friday based on scheduling needs. Brunswick reserves the right to adjust shifts and work times as business needs evolve.

Pay: $19.00 - $23.10 per hour
