An Associate Scientist position is available in the laboratory of Christopher Sturgeon, Ph.D.

We investigate hematopoietic development during embryogenesis, and establishing an in vitro model of these processes, using pluripotent stem cells. The successful candidate must be willing to contribute to any and all aspects of the research as necessary.

No human subjects / patient samples are used in any of this research. All studies have been determined as “Not Human Research” by PPHS.

Roles & Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include mouse breeding, genotyping, maintaining numerous mouse strains, contributing to experimental design (blood and tissue collection, injections, anesthesia, husbandry), obtaining protocol approvals, experimentation, data collection and analysis, and documentation of study procedures and results.

· The candidate will also perform cell culture of pluripotent stem cells, and their directed differentiation. Differentiation potential will be assessed by flow cytometry, and gene and protein expression.

· The candidate will perform molecular biology and biochemical analyses (DNA and RNA extraction, PCR, RT-PCR and Western blot).

· The candidate will contribute to the publication of study outcomes.

· The candidate will share responsibility in maintaining the laboratory within federal, state and university guidelines for Animal Safety and for Environmental Health and Safety.

· The candidate will maintain complete and organized records/reports.

· Possess troubleshooting skills, independent analytical thinking, and research planning skills, and the ability to analyze and interpret data and to communicate data in a clear, concise manner.

· Computer literacy including the ability to use a variety of software packages to analyze data, such as R, Word, Excel, BLAST, NCBI, PubMed search, RNA-seq analysis.

Requirements:

Education: PhD in Biological Science or related field

· Experience: 3 years’ experience

· General Skills;

o Ability to work independently or as part of a team and be able to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

o Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
