Position Summary:
Willamette University seeks an Assistant Director of Accessible Education Services. Reporting to the Director of AES, this person will collaborate on the provision of integrated, comprehensive, high quality services to Willamette students. Responsibilities will include collaborating with the Director on developing, implementing, and assessing policies and programs-both those designed for individual student support, and those targeted at groups. In particular, the Assistant Director will work closely with the Director on coordination of the College Access Navigators, a program for neurodiverse students and students with ADHD, including leadership of some student activities and group mentoring.

The individual in this role will work primarily with students on our Pacific Northwest College of the Arts campus in Portland, making recommendations about appropriate accommodations; facilitating interactions between students, staff, and faculty; and providing support to both undergraduate and graduate Art and Design students. In this capacity, they will be responsible for informing and educating the PNCA community about issues related to a range of disabilities, classroom and curricular accommodations, and laws related to compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act and Section 504. They will also share responsibility for AES functions and programs across the entire university, and will be expected to work on the university's Salem campus on average one day per week.

Reasonable Accommodations Statement
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A Master's degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in Special Education, Counseling, Social Work, Human Services, or a related field. A Bachelor's degree plus comparable post-baccalaureate professional experience may be substituted
  • Demonstrated ability to work with and relate to people with disabilities
  • Firm knowledge of disability laws and implications for higher education, including the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act of 2008; Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the Fair Housing Act of 1968
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Excellent communication skills with a range of stakeholders (including students, parents, and faculty), even in tense and emotionally charged situations
  • A good understanding of the intersection of disability and other marginalized identities, and and an ability to use this knowledge to increase access services to underrepresented groups, e.g. students of color, LGBTQIA identified students, and/or first generation college students
  • Warmth, patience, and a strong student success orientation

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of experience in a higher education environment, preferably in disability/accessibility services;
  • Experience with the creative arts and artists;
  • Experience working with neurodiverse individuals, including supporting their navigation through the accommodations process, and making referrals within the larger community;
  • Experience developing and giving workshops for both student and faculty/staff;
  • Experience promoting universal design.

Typical Work Schedule:

This position is a 40 hour a week, 12-month, in-person appointment. Typical hours will be Monday through Friday, 8:00AM to 5:00PM. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be needed; this will be rare.

All University positions require that candidates submit to a criminal conviction record check prior to hire. Conviction does not automatically preclude candidates from being hired. Nature of conviction will be considered relative to the duties of the position.

You will need to upload the following two documents as part of your application materials in the "My Experience" section labeled Resume:
  • Cover letter addressing the required/desired qualifications and presenting any other applicant characteristics which deserve emphasis
  • Current Resume

Review of applications will begin on November 28, 2022 and continue until the position is filled.

Incomplete applications will not be considered.
